Using statistical distributions to set thresholds for software metrics

Abstract of talk. Software metrics are commonly associated with thresholds, that set the border for potential quality problems. There are many different methods to set threshold values, some of them based on statistical methods. In this talk, we will show how the properties of power law and lognormal distributions are related to the number of bugs, and how this relation can be used to set thresholds for different software metrics.
